I just finished knitting my very first pair of socks and, needless to say, they won't be the last! I love them! I'm just curious who uses dpn and who uses circular needles and why.
I have just finished my first sock on Addi Turbo circs that Lucy sent me from this swap. The circs go much faster than double pointed and it just seems simpler. Try them out. I have switched.
I am working on my first pair on circulars, and I won't be going back to double points. I get second sock syndrome- so knitting them both at once alleviates that.
I really like DPNs, but yes, circs go faster. And if you do the two at once, you're that far ahead of the game. I think I like the accomplished feeling I get when people ooo and ahh over the fact that I'm using 5 needles all at once. OOOO, like magic!
I use both, but really like getting both socks done at once using the two circulars. It seems to go faster using the two circs and I don't drop stitches or have stretched stitches with circs, but it took some getting used to. Addi Turbos are the best: their cable connection is seamless and the cable doesn't twist with a life of its own.
I'm finishing up my first pair on Addi Turbo Circs and love it. I don't think I'll go back to DPNs. I find that I'm much faster (less fidly) and enjoy the process more. I've also been doing some hats using magic loop - because I don't have to switch to DPNs on the top when I decrease. It is definitely easier when you have a small number of stitches.
I have never tried Circulars to knit socks. I have heard pros and cons. You will find the one you like the best. I prefer the 4inch Dp. But I guess I havent tried the others I might like them better.
I never tried circulars for socks, I just use dpns... there is no particular reason, except that I learned it on dpns and are too lazy to re-learn on circulars
i use both 2 circulars & DPN depending on the pattern. When I use the "basic sock pattern" from the Yarn Harlot book, i use DPNs. My all time fav sock pattern is Lion Brand's Valentine Sock. it's a cashmere blend yarn and knits up very fast. I use 2 circulars for that. Wearing my pink pair now!! I prefer to knit on 2 cirs when I travel as well. Less chance of dropping a DPN and it falling where I can't reach (ie between seat and plane!! ARRGGG... it happend once.

I tend to use dpns, but I also really like Magic Loop on one long circular. I didn't like two circ's so much.
