Questions from my Inquisitive Ravenclaws

Hey, Jenean! My curious minded Ravenclaws have some questions I thought I would post here for answers in case other houses wanted to know too.

Will the Snitch be a photo or just "snitch"?
The image will be similar to this one:

Will/can it be in the side bars or just the main content of blogs?
It will be on a page within the blog - not the main page.

One of the blogs in not in English. Is there a way to translate that?
That would be Yvonne's site. Generally what swappers from other countries do is when they post about HSKS content they post in English. They know that the majority of the participants are English speaking. If you check her blog now you'll see that she posted the questionnaire in English. Thanks, Yvonne!!!

Thanks!

Calling all Hufflepuffs!

As I mentioned in my recent email, I have an incentive for all the Hufflepuffs out there to make sure we stand the best chance possible of winning the House Cup. We nearly achieved 100% in the HSKS3 Logo trial, but not quite. So, I'm putting together a superb prize which will include the following (plus a few more extras):

A skein of luxury sock yarn from a very talented UK independent dyer. What makes this extra special, is that you get to liaise with the dyer yourself to come up with your own choice of colourway.

Some of the cutest stitchmarkers ever!

Some Harry Potter handmade cards.

Plus some other treats that will be a nice surprise :)

I'm going to award the prize at the end of HSKS3 to the person who earns the most house points (and in the case of a tie, I will award the prize to the person I feel has contributed the most to House Hufflepuff). So come on Hufflepuffs, lets win that cup!!!

Adele - Hufflepuff Prefect

ETA: I know some people have not received emails due to spam filters. Hufflepuffs should have received 2 from me up to now, so if you haven't please either email me or leave a message here (or on my blog). Thanks!

Let's Go, Ravenclaw!!!

Okay, Ravenclaw!!! If I get 100% participation in each contest, I'll give away a goodie to a random Ravenclaw each time. So, let's start with stitch markers. Next time, we will be at 100% when she posts participation in that round, and I'll be mailing one smart cookie 5 handmade stitch markers. Pass the word!!!

Beware the Spam folder

Someone mentioned it in an earlier post but I thought I would reiterate, watch out for owls delivering your initial HSKS mail to the spam folder. Until you train your system emails with subject lines containing large number of "non words" (like HSKS #3) look commercial and can be incorrectly routed.

I finally found my downstream partner and that is exactly what has happened!

Best regards,
Alice

Good morning everyone

I'm just stopping by to say hello, don't have much time at the moment.

This swap seems to get pretty interesting with all the quidditch and games going on and collecting house points, I'm really looking forward to it.

Oh, and could someone please tell me a bit about the measurements for the bag? I never did one before and don't want it to be too small.

Have a great day

Audio fun

I started listening to the audio version of the HP books this week. It was great fun to go back to the very beginning (I'd completely forgotten that Hagrid was knitting "what looked like a bright yellow circus tent"). I'm a little more than halfway through the second book now. It helps when work gets dull, but I have to pause it when I need to focus on the tasks at hand.

(I think I have a little crush on Jim Dale.)

House Points - HSKS Logo

Time to post some early points! These points will only be added one time, so there is no further opportunity to earn these. It's a rather nice indicator, however of how well your House is tuned in to the swap events, but by no means is it an indicator of who will win the House Cup!! During the first HSKS the Ravenclaws led the way through most of the swap, but lost in the end due to little participation in the last round of Quidditch, and the Gryffindor's success in finding the Snitch during one of the rounds of Quidditch. And now, without further adieu!!

1st Place ~ Slytherin 100%

2nd Place ~ Hufflepuff 91%

3rd Place ~ Gryffindor 79%

4th Place ~ Ravenclaw 74%

Points are reflective of the percent of House participation in the given activity and they are cumulative throughout the duration of the swap.

Lets go!!

can't wait to get started! This will be a lot of fun!

Questionnaire

Hmmmm . . . . it would appear that people want a questionnaire!! LOL Sorry about the delay, ladies.

Please post this questionnaire on your blog. Your partner will be visiting you in the next couple of days to check out your quiestionnaire. All who have hers posted by Saturday, September 1st, will earn 5 House Points each.

1. What Hogwarts house have you been sorted into?

2. List your favorite double-point needle brands, including size and length. Or would you prefer circulars?

3. Would you like to try a new brand needle? If so, which brand? Size? Length?

4. If you are a RAVENCLAW, do you prefer the colors in the film or the book? Do you have a strong preference?

5. Do you have any allergies?

6. If you are swapping scarves - what is your desired length for the pattern? This will help your partner find the pattern that is just right for you and buy yarn accordingly.

So Excited!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone!!!!!

I'm so happy for this round of HSKS and sorry it took me so long to post on the site but I've been so busy with my classes starting yesterday and it being like a 100 degrees here in the NortHwest which personally I wish it would hurry up and start raining! Well I just wanted to wish everybody luck in finding their goodies for their partners and to wish My house

GGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLYTHERINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Luck in winning the house cup this time! We should really break the Gryffindors winning streak! I've been thinking about what to do as far as contest and stuff for the house but seeing as I'm not all that savvy with computers to put stuff up and the Head Madame has already had the great idea of a picture scavanger hunt and trivia I'm not sure what else to do so if you have an idea let me know through comments on this post and will see what I can do through prizes but I'll warn about my small college budget so it might be something homemade!

Well good luck to all the houses!

Gryffindor House

Good Evening Hogwarts! I just wanted to let those in Gryffindor House know that I sent out an email this evening. Please be on the look-out for it. Since these things sometimes end up in the "spam" folder.

Waiting to hear

I am also waiting for my upstream pal to get in touch. I have been talking to my downstream pal (she's a Gryffindor) and it's been fun. I have most of my kit together, but planning on adding a few extra surprises. If you are my downstream pal, and not on vacation, hearing from you would be great. Never thought I would be cheering for Ravenclaw but there go.

More HP Pattern sources

For tons of HP related craft tutorials, the Leaky Cauldron has an entire section of posted tutorials, many with photos at HP Crafts. The also have additional patterns on the main pages under crafts although they are currently transferring all of their pages to a new system/server and they are not yet transferred and available but should be shortly. Their goal is to have all patterns/tutorials on both locations for those more comfortable with a forum system and those who prefer website.

Waiting...

....impatiently to find out who my downstream partner is so I can start putting together a sock kit and parcel. Have already heard from my upstream partner and look forward to getting to know her during the swap.

Hope to make some new friends!

Wendy

Is there a swap Questionnaire

Hey all,

InsanKnitty (aka Michelle) Proud Ravenclaw here.. :-) I'm just curious.. .is there a swap questionnaire? I've been really swamped lately and will be for the next two weeks but had a few minutes and thought I'd try to update my blog with a questionnaire if it was ready.. :-) I hope I haven't missed it in my skimming of posts...

Harry, the Crocheted Wizard Doll

Say what??
Yeppers, an awesome crocheter out there, named Janie, designed the Harry Doll (c)!!!
He is adorable! So, any crocheters in the group, there you go!

Here are some other crochet/knit patterns to add to your kits:
I'm sure I will come across other HP themed patterns, and when I do, I will be sure to post them!
♥♦♥♦♥♦♥♦♥
I haven't figured out what bag I will make this round. Last round I failed horribly...it took me awhile to realize that I couldn't sew, lol! I still took care of my gal though! This round the person I'm making for is actually a friend, so I think it will be easy to put together something nice for her. Well, I can't wait for the pics to start coming in.....I know, I know, we have a while yet, lol!
Anyway, I hope you all have a great day,
Hugs, Sonia

Hello

I received my swap pal and am looking for knitted bag pattern. If any of you have a favorite I would love to see it. I have only done a few so would like some thing extra special.

Proud Ravenclaw

I am very excited to be here at Hogwarts this year for the sock swap. I'm a lowly first year so I have a lot to learn. I promise to pay attention! I think my inspiration will come from the colors of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans.

Sock Kit Bag Patterns

If anyone is interested in sewing their Kit Bags for their partner, here are a few links for a variety of different online patterns that I found....

Way too excited!

Hi everyone!
This is my first swap ever and I think I'm a little bit wound up and excited beyond words!!! It's nice to meet you all and see everyone's fun blogs.

Go Ravenclaw!!!

Hettie (a.k.a. Celtic Mommy)
http://celticmommy.blogspot.com/

Go Hufflepuff!

Okay my excitement level is just a bit unreasonable. Trying to stay reserved and demure just isn't working but I have found that once I get it out of my system everyone is safe again. Sigh, there I'm done. Thanks for permitting the indulgence.

Shopping in my mind

I am spending so much time, while waiting for the announcement, planning my package. DoI want soy yarn or silk yarn? Do I buy these beautiful needles with the special packaging or this exotic tea and tea cup? Ooh la la. this is so much fun in my imagination.

SIGN-UP IS NOW CLOSED!!!

Sign-ups for this round of HSKS are now closed. Unfortunately, I waited too long in the day and now will need to get my kids situated after school gets out before I'm able to send out the matches to the prefects who will, in turn, send them out to everyone else.

PREFECTS

I may, however, cut this a little short, so be on the lookout. I may decide to make Tuesday the last day and then send out the partners on Wednesday instead.

Prefects!
I still need prefects for the Hufflepuff and Slytherin Houses! I would also like to know if the prefects would like to help me send out all the assignment notifications. As of right now we have 51 participants signed up with the promise of at least 4 our 5 more signing up, and that's a LOT of emails to send out :)

New Knitting Bloggity Blogs

Hey, ladies! Just thought that I'd mention that I found a new blogging medium for knitters who blog. Go and check it out. You might prefer it to blogspot in a way.

Flat Rate U.S. Boxes

The United States Postal Service now has flat rate boxes that are perfect for mailing kits in! The flat rate is $8.95 a box.

You can also go to the USPS's website and order a pack of 10 boxes for FREE!! All you do is pay for shipping.

HSKS 3 Sign Ups!!!

The time has come!!! We had such a blast with the last HSKS, and so many of the ladies made gorgeous bags, that we thought we'd have another one! This round of HSKS allow the swap members to either swap sock kits are scarf kits. This is how it works:

1st years: Sock Kits

2nd & 3rd: Scarf Kits (Optional)

If you are a 2nd & 3rd year Hogwarts swapper you can choose which you would like to swap - a sock kit or a scarf kit. Just make sure that you note that in your registration form down below. Second and Third years can pass on the sorting hat and choose which House they would like to belong to this time around.

You will be swapping a sock or scarf kit which will which should total an approximate $30 to $40 and include these items:

1. A handmade (by you!) kit bag in your pals House colors- this can either be knitted, crocheted or sewn, but you must MAKE the bag!

2. Sock or scarf yarn in your pals house colors

3. A pair of new knitting needles

4. A set of stitch markers in your pals house colors - handmade or purchased

5. A sock or scarf pattern

You may feel free to add whatever little items that you choose to make your package special for your pal.

Musts: For this swap you must have a blog hosted anywhere (It does not have to be a Blogspot blog - my personal blog is a WordPress blog), and you must post in your blog at least once a week. This is so that your partner will have peace of mind that you'll be around for the duration of the swap. You also have to acknowledge in a blog post when you've received your package from your swap partner within 3 days of receiving it.

Before signing up for the swap you must be sorted into one of Hogwarts four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin. Please look to the sidebar for links to the Sorting Hat.

Prefects
I will need four people to volunteer as prefects. I'll need one for each House and your role is to simply act as the House Cheerleader. Visit blogs and answer questions that swap members may have.

Quidditch
There will be three rounds of Quidditch during this swap. There will be no weekly trivia. Quidditch consists of a trivia challenge, picture scavenger hunt, and a hunt for the Golden Snitch.

How to Join
Sign ups will be closed after the swap reaches 100 participants or by August 29th. Please fill out the form below. Afterwards you'll be brought back to this site. If you would like to have a international pal, please say so in the comments section, otherwise you will be matched with someone within your home country or very close to it :)

This is not a secret swap so you will be able to email your partner to see what her preferences are if they are not answered in the questionnaire.

If you do not see your name listed in the side bar at least two days after you sign up, please email me to see what is going on at bordeaux700 AT yahoo DOT com.

HSKS2 Sign-up Form

If you have a problem with this form go ahead and email me your:
First and Last Name
Mailing Address
Email Address
Website Address
Your Hogwarts House
And if you are a second or third year let me know if you'd like to swap a scarf kit.

The problems with signing up seem to be random. I've tried the form with Mozilla and IE and haven't had a problem myself.
